La Crosse, WI, Groceries in Transition: Corner Stores to Car Culture Author: Kevin Hundt Date published: 2018 |
Abstract | Hundt examines the transition from the classical small corner grocery store in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to the supermarket model. He argues that urban sprawl, home refrigeration, and the rise in use of the automobile have helped fuel the demise of small grocery stores while creating "food "desserts" that now exist in pockets of the La Crosse community. |
