Abstract | [005-511] In this clip, disc jockey Lindy Shannon calls into WKBH radio (La Crosse, Wis.) from a telephone booth across from the Milwaukee Arena and Auditorium about his experience a few hours before at the Beatles concert there on Friday, September 4, 1964. The Beatles played roughly a 30-minute set at the concert and three other musical groups also performed. |
Abstract | Shannon was able to get tickets to the concert in the 18th row from the front of the stage through the Minneapolis Capital Records representative. The Milwaukee Capital Records representative and his wife invited Shannon and the Minneapolis rep to go backstage and try and meet the Beatles. It was futile so they returned to their seats in the auditorium. Shannon recounted the excitement in the city and the thousands of teenagers as well as the concert just hours after it was over. Milwaukee was one of only 13 U. S. cities on this tour, and the only time the Beatles played in Wisconsin. Shannon estimated that there were 13,000 in the auditorium that night and thousands more outside in the streets.. |
Abstract | Lindy Shannon was a disc jockey, record store manager at Leitholds Music Store, local band promoter and agent as well as being a weekly music columnist. Shannon was active with area musicians from roughly the mid-1950s to the mid-1970s. Shannon worked with Roger Gilbeck under the agency name Lin-Beck. |
